There are loads of different web sites out there promising number one listings and rapid submissions to various search engines, some free, whilst others attempt to charge you for this service.

The best way to start, however, is by addressing the issue of being indexed by Google, quickly; after all, the search giant accounts for a huge proportion of the search market so it’s essential that you comply with their rules and guidelines about how to get listed and indexed.

There are many different tips and tricks related to getting indexed, some of which I plan on featuring at a later date – but for having your blog indexed there are four essential steps you should look to carry out first.

  1. It sounds obvious, but make sure the privacy setting in your WordPress admin area allows indexing by search engines. It’s in the Settings >> Privacy area.
  2. Use a Sitemap. There’s a free plugin available called Google XML Sitemap (available HERE).
  3. Google Webmaster Tools – sign up for a free account and use their tools to submit your website or blog address: www.google.com/webmasters/tools/
  4. Start commenting on other blogs, especially those with ‘Do Follow’ applied on their comments. This is good for generating incoming links as your comments on their blogs will include links back to your own site.

Anyway, like I said – they’re just some quick and easy tips… but they’re a good place to start. It should help you get listed on Google’s index quicker than ever.
