Continuing on from my last post about domain name alternatives (HERE), there are other tools freely available online that should be part of any webmaster’s toolbox. This post will include links to the ones that I use most frequently and have found easiest to use.

There’s no point in struggling through with your web site, you may as well take advantage of the free resources that are available to you – and there are lots! All you need to know is where to look for them.

iwebtool – http://www.iwebtool.com/ is a great web site that includes a handy selection of tools, including (the key ones below). It’s important to note that the free access only extends to using the tools 10 times per hour, with more frequent access requiring a premium account.

  • Google Page Rank checker – HERE
  • Web site speed test – HERE
  • Ranking tool – HERE
  • Link popularity checker – HERE
There are other sites that provide tools too though – and here’s a quick summary list:
  • Web site optimisation – HERE (calculate page size, composition, and download time) – and provides a handy analysis report with suggestions for improvements.
  • Sitemap generator – HERE – if you’re unable to, or just want an easy approach to creating a Google-friendly sitemap, then just use this tool. It’ll be useful for when you come to submitting your sitemap to Google in the Webmaster tools, referenced below.
The webmaster toolkit – HERE – is another good collection of resources for the webmaster. Specifically, they have:
  • Keyword research tools HERE & Keyword analysis tools HERE
  • CRON generator HERE
  • META tag generator HERE
Alternatively if you use Chrome, as I do, there are some good extensions you can use, such as:
  • Page Rank Checker – HERE
And of course Google themselves offer a range of Webmaster tools – HERE – where you’ll need to register that you’re the owner of a specific site, but it’ll give you the opportunity to check exactly how Google interprets your site and see what’s being indexed and what isn’t. There’s also the opportunity to directly submit your sitemap to Google too.
There are hundreds and thousands more links and resources available to the webmaster – so if you come across this page and know about a tool that’s not listed and/or you find invaluable, please add it into the comments field. Thanks!
